California CPE Requirements & Renewal Information
NOTE: The CBA recently announced changes to the renewal process: Read the announcement on their site.
To renew your license in active status, you must complete 80 hours of qualifying continuing education (CE) during the two-year period immediately before your license expiration date. You must complete at least 20 hours of CE each year, including 12 hours in technical subjects, as part of the 80-hour total.
At least 40 of those hours must be in technical subjects, and four hours must be in ethics education. The remaining hours depend on the type of work you perform during the two-year period or as required by law.
If you are required to complete CE in government auditing, accounting and auditing, fraud, or regulatory review, those hours count toward your 80-hour total and are not in addition to it. For help with specific credit requirements in government, accounting and auditing, regulatory review and ethics, and fraud, please refer to the credit index.
Regulatory Review requirement: To maintain an active status, you must complete a two-hour Board-approved Regulatory Review course by the due date listed next to your license expiration date on your renewal application.
Complete CPE requirements are available on the CBA website at https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/licensees/cequickref.shtml.
